Why replacing lost teeth is important

We normally lose teeth as a result of teeth decay, trauma, age or gum disease. missing one or two teeth is partial edentulism while the absence of all the teeth is simply called edentulism. Once the decayed tooth has been extracted or a tooth is lost due to other causes, it leaves behind and empty socket. Now the patient is in quandary as to what has to be done regarding the missing tooth.

Your dentist will give you several options for replacing the missing tooth.

But first, lets delve into the consequences of not replacing the lost tooth.
  1. Presuming that the lost/extracted/missing tooth is a front one, you start losing confidence in your smile.
  2. Our teeth are held together by jaw bone. Once a tooth goes missing, the bone surrounding that particular tooth becomes jobless, hence starts diminishing in size.
  3. The muscles in the area also start drooping giving you an aged appearance.
  4. Incase the missing tooth is in the back of your mouth, it causes problems with chewing along with all the above mentioned consequences.
